Recently, e-books have become very popular. I use e-book myself like many others. Why e-books became popular and what impact they will have in connection with our habits and the future of libraries I will consider in this essay.
E-books in many ways excel paper books. It is less weight, takes less space, can hold several thousand books at the same time. To upload a new book to your reader you need to spend less time, because you don't need to wait for the delivery, it is instant via the Internet. The e-book is often built-in with a back-light, it is possible to change the font size. All these factors increase the convenience of reading. Also, when you read a book in a foreign language, you can just click on the word to get its translation. This greatly speeds up and simplifies foreign language study.
All things considered, a library is no longer a place where we look for new books. However, we can't say that libraries are losing their value. This is no longer the single place where we find our books, but a library is still a place of cultural entertainment and communication. Therefore, libraries in our time are more focused on organizing art lectures, digitizing paper books and providing remote services via the Internet.
Our life is changing. The way we read books is changing too. It's not good or bad, that's life. The most important thing is that we have the possibility to gain new knowledge in a convenient and simple way.
